Our Art Program
Our program focuses on mixed-media painting, giving children the opportunity to explore different materials, techniques, and ways of creating within a single artwork.

Students work with acrylic and watercolor paint, oil pastels, charcoal, ink, collage, and other materials. They learn how these mediums can be layered and combined to create texture, depth, contrast, and expressive compositions.

Throughout the program, children are introduced to important foundations of visual art, including color theory and color mixing, composition, line, shape, texture, proportion, light and shadow, and basic perspective.
Our Teaching Method
Our approach combines strong art fundamentals with creative freedom. Each project begins with a demonstration and introduction to new techniques and concepts. Students are guided through the process but are encouraged to make their own decisions about color, composition, materials, and details.

Rather than having every child copy the same example, we use each project as a starting point for individual exploration. The goal is for children to develop technical skills while also learning to trust their own ideas and artistic choices.

Projects are adapted to different ages and experience levels, so each student can work at an appropriate level of challenge.

Most importantly, we encourage experimentation and creative confidence. Children learn that art is not only about making something “correct,” but about discovering what different materials can do, solving visual problems, and finding their own way to express an idea.

Our camp takes place at Unbound, a new contemporary art gallery and creative space on Valencia Street in San Francisco’s Mission District. Kids get to create in a real gallery environment, surrounded by original art and the energy of the local creative community — making their camp experience feel a little more special than a traditional classroom.
